UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
– Operates and monitors all systems within the Security Coordination Centre in an efficient manner ensuring that all work is undertaken in compliance with the operating procedures.
– Records and reports all events and actions taken in a clear, legible and accurate written format. Provides an efficient and courteous radio and telephone answering service and deals efficiently with all enquiries.
– Reports equipment failure to the Operations Officer to maximize operation of the system.
– Organizes foot patrols for the purpose of identifying potential malfunctions of physical security measures and other technical appliances and intercepting unauthorized persons attempting to enter UNRWA premises.
– Assists in fire drills, emergency/incident response drills, mass casualty drills and readiness drills with local first responders; assists in responses to fires, emergencies/incidents and safety violations/hazards.
– Conducts radio checks with the guards and their supervisors.
– Ensures that assigned equipment is properly utilized and maintained.
– Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
– Two-year Diploma in Business and Office Practice or other related discipline.
– Good knowledge of computer applications such as MS-Word, Email, MS- Excel and MS-Access.
– Three years combined experience in radio communication and secretarial work.
– Experience in fire prevention/fighting, first aid, emergency work, as well as use of VHF radio equipment are highly desirable.
– Good command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
– Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $795.40; and monthly dependency allowance $18.65 and Group Medical Insurance GMI $12.00.
– Contract Duration: Six months (Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and satisfactory service.
– Leave: 30 days annual leave.
– Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
– A regular staff member can apply to this LDC post but will not be allowed to assume such post through Secondment as he/she needs to leave his/her current post to accept LDC appointment.
