Background:

 

Under the guidance and overall supervision of the Head of Gaza Office and direct supervision of the Gaza Operations Associate of the Operations unit, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the Gaza Office, UNDP/PAPP and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

The Driver provides driving services to the UNDP/PAPP Gaza Office, Consultants, Experts and UN staff on mission while ensuring full compliance with all of UNDP, UNDSS, and Host Government rules and regulations.

 

UNDP/PAPP is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Driver, reporting to the Head of PAPP Office in Gaza with direct supervision of the Operations Associate (on a daily basis), to facilitate transport of UNDP/PAPP’s staff as well as other requested duties. This position is related to the administrative activities and management under a Service Contract modality where contract extensions will be conditioned to satisfactory performance evaluations as well as availability of funding.  

 

Description of Responsibilities:

 

Summary of Key Functions:

 

- Provision of reliable and secure driving services

- Proper use of vehicle

- Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle

 

- Availability of documents/ supplies

 

- Ensure provision of reliable and secure driving services by a) driving office vehicle for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items; b) meeting official missions and visitors at Erez Crossing and escorting them from/to Erez and other areas in Gaza; c) following and applying UN security rules and regulations while in the field; 

- Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and other reports as requested by the supervisor and on a timely manner.

- Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc;

- Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts, approved security clearances of staff, alerting UNDSS radio room ahead of planned field visits;

- Ensure that all immediate actions are taken in case of involvement in accidents, according to UN rules and regulations;

- Provide logistical support and clerical assistance to operations and programme team when requested;

- Perform other duties as required

Qualifications :

 

Education: 

Secondary Education. Valid Public Bus driving license. 

 

Experience: 

Minimum 3 years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.

Language Requirements: 

Fluency in the Arabic language, good knowledge of

The English language.
